Rachel Maddow has just called the new Liz Cheney ads — the ones branding the DOJ the
"Department of Jihad" and naming the lawyers who represent Guantanamo detainees "The Al Qaeda 7" — "a slippery slope." I think she is being too mild. Abolishing the rule of law for terrorism suspects doesn't mark the beginnings of a "slippery slope". It marks your arrival at the
bottom of that slope. What could possibly be lower? I guess abolishing the rule of law for all those suspected of a crime. That's the only thing I can think of. Her position is literally absymal: there lies nothing beneath it. It is the law of the reptile. It should also be beneath contempt but I'm afraid I'm a little short on high-mindedness today.
The bad people are scaring me. Make them go away.
