"No one has ever offered a plausible account of why thousands of scientists at hundreds of universities in dozens of countries would bother to engineer a climate hoax. Nor has anyone been able to explain why Mother Nature would keep playing along"— Elizabeth Kolbert, The New Yorker
I would leave off the last clause: the first is sufficient to sink the deniers. It remains the most gaping hole in their story: how, or why, so many thousands of scientists, separated by race, creed, language, country, religion, would independently corroborate one another's stories. You don't need to be a scientist to spot the flaw in this, just a knowledge of Occam's Razor: the simplest explanation wins. Yes, we must admit it must remain possible that all those scientists got together, in secret league, in order to pull a global hoax on an unsuspecting world, for no other reason but that it would cost a lot of governments a lot of money, and it would be fun to watch them spend it; but it implies such gleeful mischief on the part of a body of men and women otherwise renowned for their sobriety and scruple, as to remain highly unlikely.
